RUGBY UNION FOOTBALL CLUB
Fakenham RUFC plays their home games on Seppings Road in Fakenham and
they currently compete in the Eastern Counties Greene King Division One
North. They are led by the team of Chairman Adrian Stringer and President
Peter Colley and the club is built upon the key principles of discipline,
enjoyment, respect, sportsmanship and teamwork.
So far this season their first team has
been in fine form, having put together
a record of twelve wins from their first
twelve matches to sit proudly atop the
table. They have a total of sixty points on
the board.
This should provide the team with
the perfect platform from which to go
on and have a successful campaign.
As long as they are able to keep their
current group of players together and
do not suffer too many injuries it will be
difficult for any of the chasing sides to
catch them.
One of the highlights of the team’s
performances so far this season has been
the attacking brand of rugby that they
have been able to produce. This has
been reflected by the fact that they have
already racked up 426 points at a rate of
more than thirty five per game.
This will certainly have meant that
any supporters attending their matches
will have been well entertained and
16 Issue 76
should encourage more of the local
community to get behind the side in the
future. This in turn has the potential to
provide them with a valuable source of
additional revenue.
Fakenham is a club that does not
focus solely upon their senior section
however and they also have a number
of youth teams in place. These teams
look to provide young players from
the local area with an opportunity to
play the game in a safe and enjoyable
environment.
It is important for any club to be able
to produce their own talent and this is
an area that Fakenham appears to have
covered. Coaching staff involved with
their youth section are confident that
they have a number of players currently
involved with the potential to go on and
represent the club at senior level.
It can be difficult for young players
to make the transition into the senior
game and it is with this in mind that they
have an additional senior side in place.
This allows them to give youngsters
experience of playing adult level rugby
even if they are not yet considered ready
for 1st team action.
Another benefit of having an
additional senior side in place is that
it allows the 1st XV to benefit from far
greater strength in depth. If they are ever
left short of numbers through injury or
work commitments then they are able to
draft players in with a limited amount of
disruption.
Fakenham RUFC’s success on the
field is a reflection of all of the hard work
that goes into the club. If they continue
in the same manner then they should
be able to look forward to a bright and
successful future for many years to come.
