RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB
Tredegar RFC worked hard during the off-season and with a new
coaching team in place is now focused on a bright future. Rugby Club
Magazine recently caught up with Club Representative Nolan Nicklin to
find out more about the good work they have been doing lately.
Involvement
He told us, “I have been involved
with the club on an ‘on and off’ basis
since the late 90’s as a player and more
latterly as Team Manager. Tredegar RFC
was a former merit table club and was
one of the most famous clubs in Wales at
one point along with other Gwent Clubs
such as Pontypool, Newport and Ebbw
Vale.
It was an honour to be associated
with the club in any capacity but to play

for them was the pinnacle. They were
always a famous club which has suffered
at the hands of professionalism in the
modern era.”
Hard Work
“The most challenging and rewarding
aspects of my role was attracting players
to the club when they disbanded as a
senior rugby side approximately two
years ago. As a result of the collective
hard work of Captain Craig Lewis and
other members of the backroom team,
we managed to assemble a squad of
approximately forty players.
These were essentially local players
who played for the love of the game and
their home town club. As a result of this
camaraderie the club was promoted on
its first season back in Welsh rugby last
