In times when many schools are seeing a reduction in their sporting provision , Gosforth-based Newcastle School for Boys are bucking this trend by ensuring its rugby programme , and sports programme as a whole , maintain a key feature throughout the school , recognising the importance in allowing boys access to physical activity alongside their studies .
Integral to this activity , the school offers a highly successful rugby programme to all of its students . Boys at the school are offered a minimum of two coaching sessions per week , with fixtures running across two terms at both a regional and national level . In addition , boys are offered pre-season training and specialist training programmes for senior players at the school along with regular coaching input from Newcastle Falcons and England age group coaches
The success of this programme is evident , as explained by Director of Sport , Mr Lee Hogarth , “ We ’ ve seen some fantastic success in our rugby programme not only within school fixtures but also on a personal level with a number of boys currently playing in the Northumberland and Newcastle Falcons Academy as well as old boys who have gone on to professional contracts with Newcastle Falcons and England .

We therefore always aim to offer more than the standard school rugby programme , giving boys the opportunity to train with some of the most reputable rugby professionals as well as joining us on national and international tours such as our 2015 tour to South Africa .”
