Since then they have gone on to put together a history of which they have every right to be proud and are now recognised as one of the most successful clubs in Irish Rugby. In total they have more than 50 Ulster League and Cup wins and have produced twenty plus Irish internationals. They have also had six of their players represent the British and Irish Lions. At present, the club is based at Gibson Park Avenue on Cregagh Road in Belfast and their first team currently competes in Division 2A of the Ulster Bank League. They are led by the team of Chair Michael Kearney and President Patrick Baird and the club has been progressing well under their guidance. So far this season they have been in fantastic form, putting together a record of six wins and just one defeat from their seven matches. This has left them sitting proudly atop the table with twenty seven points on the board. This should provide the team with the perfect platform to go on and have a successful campaign. As long as they are able to keep their current group of 32 Issue 75 players fit and healthy they should be in with an excellent chance of mounting a serious challenge for the title. One of the highlights of the team’s performances has been the attacking brand of rugby that they have been able to produce. This has been reflected by the fact that they have racked up 212 points at a rate of more than thirty per game. This will certainly have meant that any supporters attending their matches will have been well entertained and should encourage more of the local community to get behind the side in the future. This in turn has the potential to provide them with a valuable source of additional revenue which is particularly important in the current financial climate. Malone RFC is not a club to focus solely upon their senior section however and this is reflected by the fact that they also have a thriving youth set up. This part of the club looks to provide young players from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. It is important for any club looking to be successful over a sustained period of time to be able to produce their own talent and this is an area that they appear to have covered. It will certainly be exciting to see how their youngsters can progress over the coming years. Malone RFC is a club with a tremendous history and with their current league form, coupled with their superb youth set up they appear to have everything in place for a successful future. This is thanks to all of the hard work that goes into the club and hopefully they will be able to continue in the same manner for many years to come.
