RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB
W
ith their first team clinching promotion through the play-offs
and plenty of success for their other teams it is an exciting time
for those involved with Douglas Rugby Club. We recently caught up with
Club Representative Carl Murray to find out more about the club.
Atmosphere
He told us, “The mood at the club
is very good from the junior section
through to first team level. Our first team
have just won a playoff to be promoted to
North West One from South Lancashire
Cheshire One with the playoff match
producing the biggest crowd ever seen at
a home game.
The second team have won three out
of four of their competitions. Our Casuals
side have played five fixtures this year.

The junior section continues to grow
and senior players are filtering back into
them as coaches. Sponsors lunches are
a sell-out and the whole town is getting
behind the team.”
This Season
“It has been the most successful
season for the club ever. This is the
highest league the club have ever been
in having started in South Lancashire
Cheshire Three. We are looking forward
the new challenge North West One will
bring.
Of course we were disappointed not
to win the league this year, but being
able to play a playoff match at home was
amazing for Island of Man rugby as the
whole island got behind it. To have more
wins than any team in the league, and to
have a unbeat en home record we are very
proud of what we have accomplished
and hope it’s just a stepping stone for the
next league.”
