Rugby Club Magazine also caught up with Head Coach John Pickthall who told us , “ I first got involved with the club at the age of 16 in 1978 as a player before ending my playing career in my late 30s . I got into coaching when my son started playing for the U9s and took the team through to U18s . Four players from that side went on to represent the first team including Ben Walker who has been the club captain for the past three years .
Mike Nelson had coached the team for several years and when he retired I took on the role . Last year we finished as runners up and then lost in the playoffs . The team have bounced back from that disappointment superbly , winning all of our matches to go unbeaten in winning the league . This has secured our place in National 3 for the first time in the club ’ s history and we ’ re all looking forwards to the challenge .”
