olverhampton RUFC was first established in 1875 in the old ‘Star
and Garter’ pub on Victoria Street. They had a number of founders
including Charles Mander who had gone to Rugby School together in the 1820’s.
The club’s early matches were
played near the ‘Halfway House’ on the
Tettenhall Road and had a number of
homes before settling at Castlecroft in
1950. Since being established they have
gone on to put together a history of
which they have every right to be proud
and their current group of players will
be looking to add to this over the coming
years.

At present they continue to be based
on Castlecroft Road in the West Midlands
and their first team currently competes
in the Midlands 1 West League. They
are led by the team of President Duncan
Rutherford and Chairman Ian Kendrick
and the club is looking to progress under
their guidance.
The first XV has put together a steady
campaign this time around, having
compiled a record of ten wins and fifteen
defeats from their twenty five matches.
This has left them sitting in a safe mid-
table position with fifty points on the
board.
This should provide them with a solid
platform from which to build as they
look ahead to their 2017/18 campaign.
