Avonmouth Old Boys Avonmouth Old Boys RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB A vonmouth Old Boys RFC has introduced a new culture at the club this season with a view to improving the set up they have in place. We recently caught up with Club Representative Grant Britton to find out more about how they have been getting along. Atmosphere “The mood in the camp at present is very positive. Everyone from 3rd XV up to 1st XV have bought into the new culture that’s been instated by the new coaching staff and that’s reflected at training with numbers consistently in the 30’s. This season has been about rebuilding the squad, changing mind- sets and the club socially. Having retained many players over the past four seasons who have experienced life at Nat 3 (level 5) following a brief two year spell there we were conscious that the drop in league status/standard has been somewhat frustrating for some. So a key focus was to retrain the mind-set and adapt to the level we are now at. Socially we’ve took quite a hit over those successful seasons as a more professional outlook was adopted to represent the standard we were competing at. This was great to experience and to be a part of at a completely amateur club but it took a lot away from us also and naturally our 2nd and 3rd XV sides felt this strain more than ever, so this year it’s been an important aspect to improve and build on.” This Season “At Christmas we would of said we were exactly where we wanted to be but unfortunately a dip in form and a period of ill-discipline in early February saw us lose three fixtures on the bounce www.rugbyclub.biz 75
