RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB

lantwit Major RFC was first established in 1889 and has gone on to put together a history of which they have every right to be proud since then . Rugby Club Magazine recently caught up with Club Chairman Paul McGinn to find out how the club is getting along at present .
He told us , “ I have been a member of the club for 20 years of which I am now Chairman having been voted in in July 16 . I was attracted to the club as I am a keen supporter of rugby in which the club welcomed me with open arms even though I am English !”
“ Having been a member of the committee in the past I wanted to give something back to the club and was proud to be voted in as Chairman and hope that working with the committee , members as well as the local community to be a successful term .
“ As chairman of the club it is a challenging role for not only me but the committee as with any other rugby club we have internal politics and keeping all members happy is a task within itself .
“ We as a club can provide a variety of entertainment ( Bands , Dinners , Speaker nights ) as for speaker nights we have had in the past :
“ Graham Henry , Steve Hanson , Mike Ruddick and Warren Gatland , ( all ex Welsh Head Coaches ) Robert Croft ( Cricket ) and Nigel Owens ( Rugby Referee ).
“ We are also proud to have a member , Mr Roger Andrews , in the club that was commissioned to provide the statue of Sir Tasker Watkins VC ( WRU President 1993-2004 ) and some would say the best WRU President which can be seen standing outside the Principality Stadium in Cardiff . We have the miniature statue in the club which was kindly presented to us by Roger whom we are truly grateful to .
“ The rewarding element of being Chairman is working with the committee to provide to the best of our ability a facility that is enjoyed by all ages as we are a family rugby club at the centre of the community . The mood of the club at the moment is buoyant as our first team are 3rd in the WRU League 3 East Division B .
“ We have a successful Mini & Junior section ranging from under 7 to 16 who will then move up to Youth . This is really important for the club as if we have no youth we would struggle to put out a First Team .
“ At the moment we have ten players in the first team squad that has come through the M & J and youth . One of the ways we ensure the transition is smooth is that we involve the youth with the first Team in training sessions . “ Within the club we also provide facilities for County Pool , a local Boxing Club ,
Darts Teams and an Archery Club . We also have a function room that can hold over 100 people which can cater for Wedding Functions , Children ’ s Parties , Bands as well as the local Masons .
