The Role
Gordon Richards is a principal club sponsor of
Falkirk Rugby Club with his business Richards
Family Butchers. He recently spoke to Rugby
Club Magazine about his positive association
with Falkirk Rugby Club, saying, “I became
involved when my son Jay started as a four
year old playing for Falkirk’s mini’s and this
progressed into becoming a real family affair.
I naturally was drawn into coaching while
watching Jay play and completed my level 1
badge. My wife Maureen also coached for a
while too. Our youngest son Zac and Jay are
both over at Stirling County now but we are still
very much supporters of Falkirk. The boys have
exceeded all expectations this year on the back
of last season’s promotion and they are a real
credit to the club.
Myself, Maureen and the boys would like to
take this opportunity to congratulate everyone
associated with Falkirk Rugby Club on another
magnificent season and to wish them all
continued growth and success!”

“I’ve been President at Falkirk now since season 2012-
13, and every season has presented different challenges, the
one that I’m sure most club officials will sympathise with is
money. It is probably the biggest single challenge that affects
any club and that is trying to keep control of our annual
budget.
We pride ourselves in being a community club but
where Falkirk is located cannot be described as prime rugby
territory; we are surrounded by football clubs and being in
the central belt of Scotland rugby here is very much seen as
a minority sport. So one of the most rewarding aspects of
my role within the club to date where along with other club
members is in growing and nurturing our youth and mini
sections.
In the last couple of seasons we have been able to
boast a full complement of teams at every age group from
Primary 1 all the way to U18. We have also established a
Girls U15 team and are establishing both a girls U18 team
and woman’s team. I do take pride when I see young players
from our U18s graduate to playing for our First XV.”
Atmosphere
“The general mood at the club at the moment is fairly
buoyant. Both our First XV and Second XV achieved
promotion in their respective league this season, so were
playing in uncharted territory. Our Firsts had a fantastic run
