ontypool RFC has been enjoying a fantastic season this time around,
having lost just once in the league. Rugby Club Magazine recently caught
up with their Chief Executive Officer Ben Jeffreys to gain an insight into what has
been behind their success.
Involvement
He told us, “I first became involved in
Pontypool RFC in December 2012. The
club had just lost a High Court case
against the Welsh Rugby Union and
my dad initially took the decision
to intervene and clear the club’s
six figure debt to prevent it from
being wound up after the previous
directors abruptly left.
He had not long lost his father,
who took him to see Pooler from a
very young age so it was very much
an emotional decision from a long-time

supporter. It quickly became apparent that
filling a financial void was not enough
and it required lasting management.
I initially played a supporting role
to my father’s efforts in a marketing
capacity before taking over as
the club’s chief executive officer
in 2014. I never actually liked
rugby and had probably watched
only a handful of games before
getting involved, so it was a huge
learning curve.

and my father even closer together
