RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB
P
onteland RFC is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and has been doing
so in style with some fine results on the field. Rugby Club Magazine recently
caught up with Club Secretary Richard McGlashan to find out more about how the club
is getting along at present.
Atmosphere 50th Anniversary
He told us, “The current mood is
vibrant and upbeat. We are fielding three
senior sides which are all experiencing
success. We have age group teams from
U6/7 to colts and an emerging and
developing girls squad at U13 and U15.
Our strapline is “An amateur club
run professionally” and this approach
has led to a club that can focus on the
development of rugby across mini,
junior, youth and senior teams with the
knowledge that the administrative and
organisational systems are in place to
facilitate this.” “This is indeed a special season with
it being our 50th Anniversary season.
Celebrations are well underway with an
event on a monthly basis through this
season. These events have been many
and varied and have included a family
fun day, a senior’s golf competition and
a 15-a-side rugby tournament.

Iain Nicholson & Co., Solicitors
have generously sponsored a new 1st
XV strip, which was in the original club
colours, white with maroon and black
banding. Iain’s business is also 50 years
old this year and his father was a founder
member of the club and was responsible
for the Dr Nicholson trophy which is
awarded annually to the most successful
team in the club.
We have a 50th Anniversary
Memorabilia Shop on the club website
where you can order a range of 50th
Anniversary items which all have the
anniversary logo. This includes club
tie, enamel label badge, sports shirt and
much more. We commissioned High
House Farm Brewery, Matfen to brew a
PRFC 50th Anniversary Ale which is now
on sale. The ale is 3.6 ABV and has the
description, “this golden brew is a thirst
