Old Patesians FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG Old Patesians RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB O ld Patesians RFC is a Cheltenham based rugby club with three senior teams and a thriving mini/youth section. Rugby Club Magazine recently caught up with their Head Coach Craig jones to find out more about the club. Involvement He told us, “This is my 4th season at Old Patesians. I initially joined as player coach and took the responsibility of head coach alongside this. Old Patesians is one of the leading rugby clubs in Gloucestershire. The offer to coach at one of the highest levels available locally and to continue playing was too good to turn down. Old Patesians is a club full of history and too be part of this is a real privilege.” The Role “At Old Patesians we are not blessed with the greatest playing, training and changing facilities. This is both very challenging, but also very rewarding at the same time. To produce three quality senior teams and a thriving junior section with this hurdle is a real credit to all involved. The club continues to grow from strength to strength despite the logistics of overcoming these issues. It is an honour to be part of the community of Old Patesians RFC.” Atmosphere “I would say the mood here is outstanding, enjoyable, workman like, determined, sociable and a pleasure to be part of. We have suffered a couple of difficult seasons in terms of senior results, but the one thing that has remained throughout is the team spirit amongst all involved with the senior section. This very much filters down throughout the club as many of the senior players also support some junior teams. We have a group of players, where the majority have grown up playing together for Old Patesians. When things are hard, 100 Issue 70 the squad very much pull together in the same direction. There are not many clubs around our level who can replicate what we have.” This Season “This season has been very positive. To get relegated last season was a massive disappointment for all involved, but it has ultimately made the group of players stronger. We were lucky enough to have some quality players, who are really positive figures, join in the summer as a result of relocating with jobs etc. We were also able to retain the majority of our squad, which has been crucial to the success of this season. We are currently 2nd in the league with five games remaining.
