Mike Philllips of club sponsor Phillips County Stores recently spoke to Rugby Club Magazine , saying , “ I am a St Clears boy and played my rugby there in the front row from the late nineties . I have just about hung my boats up now but still manage the odd game from time to time . I spent quite a few years playing for Carmarthen Athletic before returning to St Clears .”
“ I currently coach my son Harry ’ s U13 team where he plays in the front row like his Dad and have coached the team since Harry started in the U7s . I am also a level 2 coach and a level 1 referee . It ’ s great to see the club thriving and that has to be down to a committee who have great listening skills and who are able to act . Fundamentally , the guys know how to run a club properly .
“ By focusing on a good senior squad in those early years our junior rugby teams were given something to aspire to and see a future for themselves in senior rugby . We try to include everyone and any finances we get are put straight back into the club , we even have an old boots box where if you need a pair and can ’ t afford them your welcome to have a rummage around . The box is naturally put away out of sight in a private place in the corner .
