half , has played for Glasgow Hawks and been capped for Scotland at U20 level . Liam Brims , former stand-off is with Falkirk in National League One and currently top scorer in that division . All are products of the Caithness youth system , mainly nurtured by Colin Sangster our former coach and development officer who is now coaching Dundee HSFP .
“ Caithness is very much a community club , the only provider
of rugby training and facilities in the county . Visitors comment on the excellent family atmosphere we have at the club and the mixture of ages attending games and using the club facilities bears testimony to this . The clubhouse is used as a community facility more than as a rugby facility .
“ Plans have been drawn up to replace the old wooden changing room and portacabin with a new building to house a small gym , hospitality and storage facility . Both pitches underwent a major drainage scheme a few years ago and we now intend to improve the floodlit training area .
“ The main challenges ahead are maintaining / increasing numbers involved in youth rugby and increasing the volunteer base around the club . On the pitch , promotion to National League 3 is our immediate ambition . This would mean 4 more games per season but we are already used to a heavy travel schedule , currently covering over 4,000 miles in game travel per season . This season our nearest games are in Aberdeen , 215 miles from our base in Thurso !”
Neil Campbell is the manager of the Weigh Inn Thurso . He recently spoke to Rugby Club Magazine , saying , “ I know we have supported the club for a while now and certainly before I arrived here two years ago . Many of my family are fans of the club and have been involved with Caithness and I like to take my son Jacob down there when I can where his Grandad and cousins are regularly seen . We often see players and members at The Weigh and away teams visiting are also a welcome sight .
