Brian McKay of club sponsor B & D Roofing recently spoke to Rugby Club Magazine about his positive association with Dalkeith Rugby Club , saying , “ One of the boys that works for our company , James Corcoran , had approached me about eight years ago and asked me if would be interested in helping the U16s out with a new kit . James ’ son Claymore was playing there at the time and we were very happy to help out .”
“ As a company we like to support local sport , in particular helping young people find a bit of direction in life , which sport can generally offer them . It ’ s wonderful to hear that the club has been chosen to appear in the Six Nations edition of Rugby Club Magazine . Caroll Watson , the new club president , is a great ambassador for Dalkeith Rugby . I have had the pleasure of being on the Spanish tour with the U16s when the boys won all four fixtures and look forward to more occasions . Myself and all our staff at B & D Roofing would like to wish everyone associated with Dalkeith Rugby Club the very best of continued success !”

Community
“ We are absolutely a community club . We have quite a number of classes and meetings that use our hall for various activities during the week including a Sporting Memories group that we support . With new disabled access and facilities installed last year , this makes our clubhouse ideal for use for all .”
Challenges
“ We would like to improve our shower facilities in the near future and sourcing grants towards this may be a challenge with funding cuts throughout all organisations .
Improving and growing playing numbers to sustain competitive teams through all club levels is something we are always working on . New ideas to attract players are being trialled and hopefully we can overcome these difficulties .”
Ambitions
“ We would like the club to be competing in the national leagues , with strong 1st and 2nd XV senior teams and a competitive women ’ s team . This would need to be backed up with teams at under 18s / 16s / S1 & 2s in order to maintain that , including a youth women ’ s section to build strong teams for the future . The mini section to continue to grow and get stronger would also build for the future .
We have an ever increasing number of volunteers that help run our club which we could not survive without . From coaching all the kids to committee , and member volunteers that help out with any challenge they are asked ! It is a fabulous community that I am very proud to be a part of .”
Stewart Haining of club sponsor Conveyor Belt Co Scotland Ltd recently spoke to Rugby Club Magazine about his positive association with Dalkeith Rugby Club , saying , “ I was attending Jewel & Esk Valley College when one of my lecturers Robert Montgomery , who was aware my cousin Andrew was involved with Dalkeith , suggested I come down for a game .”
“ I played for the club for the next 28 years starting off on the wing then into the pack as 2nd row and finished up in the front row . I have to say that I owe a lot to Dalkeith Rugby club and the values , discipline and learned skills it has taught me have had a very positive effect on my life .
“ Having left school without any academic qualifications and lacking in self-confidence the club , coaches and players taught me many valuable lessons . Early in my playing career my company director watched me as team captain for the club and recognised my organisation and leadership skills . He then utilised these in his business and advanced me accordingly ; I ’ m not sure this would have happened if it had not been for the club ’ s influence on me .
“ The guidance of those older players on the pitch in my early days taught me not to react and allow things to pass , one of the great life lessons the club gave me . This all led on to me starting my own company and sponsoring the club for the past 10 years , my chance to give a little back . It great to see Dalkeith Rugby Club appointing their first female president in 118 years ; Caroll Watson is a great ambassador for Dalkeith rugby and I wish her all the best . I would like to say thank you to the club for everything and wish everyone continued enjoyment and success !”
