Banff RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB
B anff RFC was formed in the spring of 1978 , when a group of likeminded individuals played a couple of friendly games against local Teams Huntly and Ellon . The team consisted mainly of school teachers , council officials and civil servants , under the guidance of ex Highland Hooker , George Webster .
Rugby at the local Academy produced some great talent and the council offices proved a great source of players . The Club has enjoyed many successful seasons , winning their League and local Cups . A number of players have gone on to play in higher leagues in Scotland , England and indeed International Rugby in Canada .
Banff have been a great touring Club , having visited France , Ireland , Holland , Wales and even the far reaches of Scotland i . e .

Andy Kewley is a current front row player for Banff RFC and he recently told Rugby Club Magazine , “ I am a local boy , originally from Turriff but now living in Banff . I started playing junior rugby for the club in 1998 where I worked my way from the wing into the front row . The club have had their tough times with a relegation a few years ago but have been improving greatly over the past few seasons .
“ Our recent match against the RAF , after the league split , was an outstanding defensive display from our lads who were heavily under the cosh but survived ; we already hold a very good defensive league record .
“ Ladies rugby has brought an additional dimension to our club and certainly provided more of a family feel . One of the great elements of our club has to be the support we have received which has been immense and such a welcome sight on our touchlines home and away .
“ Best wishes to everyone associated with Banff Rugby Club for the rest of the season and beyond !”
