“ I don ’ t believe that you can ever be complacement with what you have , there are always improvements that can be made and achievements to aim for .
“ The next area that we want to turn our attention to is the large room at the rear of the club house that holds approximately 120 people . This is a prefabricated room with no insulation and whilst it is adequate in size for purpose , the whole atmosphere of the club would be improved by modernisation .
“ The main challenge to the club in the next few years will be to maintain and improve its standards , so that we will be able to attract new players from around the area . When I look back over the last few years , I can see we have been a breeding ground for good players , then lose them to sides in higher leagues , as they have been playing a better standard of rugby .
“ We hope to be able to maintain our improvement , keep our players , instead
of the recent scenarios where our better players move away , only to return in their twilight seasons . Alongside this , we are intending to start a colts side as well . We intend to do this by talking to various schools in the area , and attending Freshers Week at Worcester University , chatting to students about rugby and distributing leaflets about the club . Any players we attract at this age will be the future of the club .
“ Our first ambition is to get promotion this season , and then do our best to achieve the same next season . An excellent reason for this is that the 2018 / 2019 season will be our 60th Anniversary . It would be tremendous to be playing in the same league as our local rivals in that year .”
Ed Gough is the current club captain at Tenbury RFC . He recently spoke to Rugby Club
Magazine about his positive association with the club , saying , “ My brother , Will , asked if I could help the club out a few seasons ago and with Tenbury being my local side I decided to move away from Luctonians and join the guys .” “ I have to say , although the team was obviously needing a little direction and organisation , our very young crew have really stepped up to the mark showing a huge amount of enthusiasm . Last season we managed to beat all the teams within our league and as we stand at the moment we are likely to gain promotion to Midlands Four . “ Our ambition would be to reach Midlands 3 over the next few seasons , which is not beyond us .
We are a different team than when we started this season demonstrating how quickly we are improving . The club have also attracted a few new players on the back of last season ’ s success and we have a very positive committee , who along with everyone else at the club , wish to take us forward . “ For this young team , it is as much about overcoming the mental barriers , as much as the physical . A lot of these guys have had to learn to play rugby the hard way . To turn the habit of losing into the habit of winning . I feel that we ’ re only just scratching the surface of what this young Tenbury side can do . The next few seasons at the club are going to be very exciting .”
