“ The most challenging aspects of my role in the club since I was elected chairman have been : -
• Forming a new committee with two other new directors , Mark Tyne and Nick Dunn , together with Simon Higginson as President who has a long association with Tenbury RFC .
• Getting the new flood lights erected so that proper winter training could take place .
• Our club house had a sport England grant awarded for the refurbishment of the changing rooms , showers etc . and we got this done largely before the start of the season .
• Getting more sponsorship into the club so it has enabled it to function properly .
“ The general mood of the club is very good at the moment . This is due entirely to the team spirit that has been generated over the last 12 months . We have endeavoured to give the players what they have wanted , i . e . kit and other improved facilities .
“ This has resulted in new players being attracted to the club of all abilities . One has returned from a national league side as he felt he could see what we are trying to achieve . We have also attracted players from other local sides in the area . It is all about getting a good message out there , doing what you say you will and creating an “ all welcome ” environment .
“ The season so far has gone beyond all our expectations . As I write this , we are currently top of our league with a game to play . We haven ’ t lost since 22nd October when at that time we had a lot of injuries .
“ I feel credit should go to the coaches and our captain . All have put in a tremendous effort into training evenings ( twice weekly ) going through new moves over and over again to get it right . This time last year , we were 5th out of 7 in the league , and ended up 39 points off the league winners .
“ So far , the season has been immensely rewarding . It has been great to see the new committee working together in their different roles with great enthusiasm .
“ It is good to see sponsorship coming into the club which benefits both the club from added funding and further involvement of local businesses . Everyone who was asked said yes , without exception . We have seen support grow on the touchline as a result . One of our new sponsors has sponsored a completely new strip , which they have already assured us will be added to next season .
“ To conclude , seeing everything coming together both on and off the field is very rewarding .
“ At the time of writing , we only have one fixture left . The message will be “ more of the same ”.
“ We want the club , although as I have said everyone is welcome , to become more involved in the community . It is everyone ’ s club . Tenbury is a largely agricultural community and we hold a very successful agricultural show on the first Saturday in August . It is our intention to have a presence at the show in an attempt to raise the profile of the club , and attract interest from people who have been looking at us through the media .
“ We currently run 1 ¾ teams like so many other clubs . It is our ambition to get the numbers up to be able to run two full sides every week . This does a number of things , but most importantly , it brings competition into the first 15 and secondly it creates a great atmosphere in the clubhouse , and there is nothing better than that on a Saturday evening .
