Stourbridge RUGBY CLUB

Stourbridge Rugby Club is a fantastic example of a progressive , forward thinking establishment that plays an important role in the local area . Rugby Club Magazine recently caught up with Club Chairman Robin Edwards to find out more about the good work that they have been doing lately .
Involvement
He told us , “ I have been involved with the club for over 40 years and I was introduced to the club as a follow on to school rugby . In the distant past the King Edward VI Grammar school at Stourbridge was a rugby only school led by a very enthusiastic sportscaster called Derek Miles .
He was influential in encouraging so many local boys to take up rugby and he made sure that the school fed the club . It was a well-established route that has seen many boys recruited into the local team . The club therefore had many friends already playing there and it immediately felt like home .”
The Role
“ The most challenging aspect of my role is to accommodate all the members across what is a very wide spectrum of semi professional and amateur rugby , keeping the identity and objectives of the club clear and maintaining a balance both emotionally and financially so that we can enjoy the facilities we have and participate in the development of the game we love . Rugby attracts strong characters and they generally have strong opinions so getting them to work for the common good is often challenging .”
Atmosphere
“ The mood here is upbeat . We have several projects that are coming to fruition and the membership is growing . Our teams are performing well and there is a lot of activity out on the pitches . The
