Waid Academy FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG Waid Academy Rugby Club T he Waid Academy Rugby Club dates back to 1888 when pupils, staff and others formed a team that was known as the Etceteras. They played their first games as early as 1890 and the club has functioned continuously apart from breaks in the first and second World Wars. In the early years of the Club the president was also the School PT Master and this tradition continued right up to the 1960s. Over the years they have put together a history of which they have every right to be proud and the current group of players will be keen to add to this. At present, their base is 55 High Street, Anstruther in Fife and their first team competes in Division 3 Midlands North of the Caledonia League. They are led by President Richard Dyce who is supported by Secretary Eric Anderson and the club has made a considerable amount of progress under their guidance. So far this season their first team has put together a fine campaign having compiled a record of eleven wins and two defeats from their thirteen matches. This has left them sitting near the top of the table with 53 points on the board. Their form so far should provide them with the perfect platform from which to go on and have a successful season. So long as they are able to retain their current group of players they should be able to look forward to a bright and successful future for many years to come. One of the highlights of the team’s performances has been the attacking brand of rugby that they have been able to produce. This has been reflected by the fact that they have racked up 542 points at a rate of more than forty per game. This will certainly have meant that any supporters attending their matches will have been well entertained and should encourage more of the local community to get behind the side 50 Issue 67 in the future. This in turn has the potential to provide them with a valuable source of additional revenue which may prove particularly important in the current financial climate. There is much to admire about the fine set up that Waid Academy FPRFC currently has in place and this is thanks to all of the hard work that has gone into making them a success. Everyone at Rugby Club Magazine wishes them the best of luck for the rest of the season.
