side out whereas we can now field two
full teams and a vets team called Witham
stage that play charity matches only and
a 02 touch team that are doing very well
in their games this season.
“To compliment that, the junior sides
are growing in numbers slowly too and
we can field full sides in all mini midi
age groups. I would like to continue the
work with the RFU and build full teams
through all youth age groups too.
“The junior section of the club is a
massive part of our club because we are
hoping they are our future senior players.
One of the biggest challenges is retaining
youth players past under 14s as some go
off to bigger clubs and some just leave.
Those left get very disheartened by not
having a team that they soon leave also.
This is something we are working very
hard on and it is my main target is to see
WRUFC have a colts side which hasn’t
been done for many many years.
“WRUFC is a big part of the
community; we house the annual

we are also the base for setting up the
Witham carnival. Witham ladies use the
club for their meetings and we even open
the club for the local schools to use our
grounds if needed.
“This season WRUFC moved from
Merit Table 5 back into the Essex League
1. It’s been a massive challenge for
our players to adjust and injuries have
stopped results going our way but the
players have a motto they live and play
by, ‘NEVER ENOUGH’ and they have
stepped up and put in 100% in every
game so far this season and I can’t say
how proud I am of them. They are all
superstars.”
