Plumpton The team is built around a solid and some would argue, mobile, front row weighing in at almost 60 stone of prime beef, which is completed by a dynamic back line. Mark Llewellyn-Slade commented: “It’s a nice balance which covers all the bases. I have offered the lads a conditioning coach but they said I shouldn’t waste club funds. Funnily enough there was more interest in a pre-match masseuse!” The season got off to a flying start with a four team tourname nt against local clubs, which Plumpton won. Now mid-way through 22 league fixtures in the Sussex Oranjeboom league they are comfortably positioned. The full fixture list is available on Plumpton’s webpage; www.plumptonrfc.co.uk To celebrate 50 seasons, Plumpton have set up a 50th Anniversary page on facebook. They have also organised a number of social events for club members, old and new, including a tour and tasting at Harvey’s Brewery and a Sussex wine tasting. The season will culminate with a tour to Bulgaria at the end of April, followed by their 7s tournament and a 50th Anniversary game before their 50th Anniversary Dinner on May Bank Holiday weekend. Plumpton RFC has also secured good financial support for the season. Gemini Print group are headline sponsors, providing a stunning new kit for the 50th year, with local Award Winning English Sparkling Wine producers - Ridgeview, local Quality Groundworks expert - Alun Gedrych and international Queen’s honours and business awards consultancy, Awards Intelligence, keen to support the club as sponsors for the 50th season. So you know where to go if that knighthood is proving elusive! Mark Llewellyn-Slade commented: “With so many great events planned for 2017 and excellent sponsorship in place, it promises to be a vintage year for all concerned. We are keen to attract as many new and old faces to the club as we can with the promise of regular rugby, fun and frolics. “Our 50th Anniversary is also about recognising the club stalwarts who have played a vital role in its growth and longterm prosperity. From our bar manager and touch judge Colin Fisher who played in the clubs first ever game in 1967 and seldom misses a match to our President Dave Beale who was also on the pitch from day one and enjoys watching his two sons from the touch line nowadays. His son Lewis’s commitment to the club is an example to us all.” Training takes place on Tuesday’s at Plumpton College from 7pm, new players always welcome with the college facilities used by Plumpton boasting some of the best indoor and outdoor training facilities in the county. www.rugbyclub.biz 43
