We recently caught up with their President Paul Tanney to find out more about the good work that they have been lately. Atmosphere “The club is in a buoyant mood and there is a very positive feel around the place. People realise that the new extension we have had built gives us a facility that we can be very proud of 26 Issue 65 and one that matches our magnificent grounds. We have three rugby pitches, a cricket pitch and a football pitch set in tree lined grounds. Our newly extended club house can accommodate 180 sitting (220 including bar area) and has a large window overlooking the cricket pitch. We were famous for not having a window throughout the clubhouse. On the rugby side things are very positive. We appointed a new head coach during the close season and we’ve had decent attendances at training, up on previous years, but like any club could still be better. We also started our tots and minis during the summer and it’s been really well received in the local community.” Off-Season “After narrowly avoiding relegation last season, we appointed a new Head Coach, John Goose. John started and ended his senior playing career at Ashington, in between he played at Blaydon and Doncaster amongst others. He therefore had an excellent playing pedigree and has the respect of all the club members.
