“We have had a hugely successful season across
all age groups. This season through friendlies, RFU
club cups, tournaments and county fixtures our girls
have played more games than ever before. Across the
age groups they have played over 70 games and game
experience is really important for the girls. Our 18’s
have however been the stars this year where they were
undefeated across the RFU cup and played in the RFU
National final against Worcester in Early May.
“It was a really tight game as is to be expected of a
national final but they eventually ran out winners 3620. Outside of this the 18’s have also been named youth
team of the year by a local newspaper and we have a
number of girls who have been selected for England
under 18’s and under 20’s.
“I think the success has been down to a number of
key elements
• All our girls play with a smile of their face and
enjoy being part of the club
• We have a great group of coaches across the 3 age
groups. They have a great understanding of the game
and how to inspire the girls
• A club in Pulborough RFC that is 100% committed
to the girls section and has from the very first training
session 4 years ago ensured we are totally integrated
into club life
• Wonderful parents who turn up in all weather
and travel far and wide to support their daughters
“If anyone is interested in trying the game I would
advise them to find your local rugby side by going onto
your county RFU website. Then pop down on a Sunday
morning when the youth sections train and introduce
yourself to some one in the club house. There is always
someone to help and let you what the next steps are.
Rugby clubs are hugely family friendly and start with
children from as young as 5.
“For the coming years it would be great to get into
another final however we want to consolidate our
numbers across all age groups and then start a Women’
side in the next 12 months.”
