Pre-season started in July with a focus on our friendlies so that we hit the ground running coming into the season.” “The senior section liaises very closely with the Colts section with 18 colts playing senior rugby this season. The Colts league matches on a Sunday take priority for them, however it is a small league so when they don’t have a match they filter into the senior sides. We also train on a Thursday night with the colts so often link up at the end of training to run against each other which gets everyone involved.” Youth “Youth rugby is incredibly important to the club. Without it the senior section would not be half as strong as it is now. There have been many matches this season where the entire 1st XV back line has been made up of players who have played for Pulborough through the majority of the age groups. This trend seems to be only growing in strength, with the youth sections winning more and more each season and producing players of fantastic quality.” 52 Issue 64 Community “We are most definitely a community club. With Pulborough being a relatively small village whenever you go into the pub after a match on the Saturday people are asking how the sides got on. We are also fortunate to have a thriving VPs sections made up of many people from across the community, bringing in a couple of hundred people to watch on Saturdays.” Ambitions “Within the next five years we will be looking at gaining promotion for the firsts and for the seconds to be playing Sussex 1 rugby. It would also be a goal to introduce a 4th team to the senior setup, promoting more depth throughout the senior sides. The youth sections are on an incredible growth trend and I’m sure the clubs goal would be to maintain this and to accommodate as many players as possible. The girls sections is ever growing especially since recent successes and something we have spoken about would be to have a ladies team so that we can hold on to the incredible talent coming from the U18s.”
