Old Caterhamians FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG Community “The Club was formed in 1928 by Old Caterhamians, but in 1946 in the wake of WW2 we became an open club so this year we are proud to have been a community club for 70 years. As stated above we work with both Caterham School and the local schools to provide facilities to the community, whether it is taking part in the local carnival, education and coaching in local schools or running community fun sessions, we are a very large part of the local community and not just an Old Boys side or a die-hard rugby club.” Women’s Rugby “Over 12 years ago my daughter and a friend decided that as they spent so much time up at the club with their partners, they wanted to start a ladies side and asked me to coach them. The side grew quickly with amazing success over the years and now has a thriving section that is supported by a junior girl’s side that is also growing in numbers. We have attracted ex England and Surrey players who have played for us over the years and on the other end of the spectrum have introduced women who have never played rugby into the game, who have now gone on to represent Surrey. Our ladies sides form an integral part of the club and are supported by the men’s section and similarly the ladies attend the men’s matches as both supporters and volunteers.” Ambitions “If we get things right in our strategies to promote rugby into the community and migrate players through our sections into the 1st XV, I would hope that we would gain promotion back into Surrey One where we used to play for over 15 years and hopefully move back into the London Leagues. Overall we want to be viewed as friendly rugby club that provides the community with a great service where all age groups are welcome to come along and enjoy the facilities and everything that is great about rugby in a friendly, family environment.” H HO OM ME E SS O O FF D D II SS T T II N NC CT T II O ON N www.raynerstc.com Rayners Town and Country specialise in bringing homes of distinction to the market in Caterham and surrounding areas.
