Creswell Crusaders “I believe with the workforce we have and the right steps towards our goals we will still be around and achieve more than what we have done so far.” Atmosphere Running the Club “The most challenging aspects of running a club I feel is keeping everyone happy on game days. When you’ve got 25 keen players wanting to put their bodies on the line for yourself and the club and only 20 can be used, it means letting the extras down. This over the years has resulted in players leaving the club. We have had a couple seasons where we have been fortunate enough to roster two squads and this suited everyone. This is one of the next steps for the club; to establish a consistent 2nd squad to improve playing opportunities. For me the most rewarding aspect is probably the number of young loyal players we have at the club. These players were recruited from the college rugby team six years ago and to watch how they have developed on and become regular squad players on match days and still have plenty of years left in them is fantastic.” “One thing we have always had at Creswell is a great atmosphere. It OLD COMRADES SOCIAL CLUB LUXURIOUS LOUNGE BAR GAMES ROOM WITH SKY TV AND TWO FULL SIZE SNOOKER TABLES BINGO EVERY MONDAY, TUSEDAY, SATURDAY & SUNDAY TELEPHONE: 01909 721310 DOVER ST, CRESWELL, WORKSOP S80 4EZ may appear too laid back for some but we try not to put any pressure on any member as we are all here for the same reason, which is to play a sport and gain enjoyment out of it. We are still training and recently attended a 7s and 10s tournament finishing as runners up and winning the plate. We’ve had plenty of new players attending training and I just hope they stick around as it would help achieve our goal of fielding two squads every week.” 2015/16 “Last season was pretty poor for us. Key players left the club for reasons unknown at the start and we struggled to bounce back which gave us poor results and inconsistent numbers due to injuries on match days. We just want to reflect on that season and ensure lessons are learnt so that we aren’t involved in as many poor games again this year. Everyone is aware why it happened and they have all been instructed on how to prevent it from happening again.” Nigel Metcalfe is the secretary of the local comrades club in Creswell, he recently told Rugby Club Magazine, “I am a rugby man myself having played hooker for Whitwell RUFC back in the80s. When the club were looking for a base for their teams we were happy to help. It’s great to hear that the club is looking to develop junior rugby. Myself and everyone at the Comrades Club would like to wish everyone continued success at Creswell Crusaders RFC!” www.sportip.biz 35
