We recently caught up with the Club Representative John Crossland to find out more about the club and their plans for the future. Involvement He told us, “I have been involved with the club for nearly 7 years. Rugby has always been a big passion of mine. I was involved with the original “Panthers,” the North Derbyshire Rugby Club which was very successful before they merged with Chesterfield Rugby Club. I also had second spell at Chesterfield Rugby Club and had opportunities of playing and managing squads with both sides. In 2009 I was approach by some players from the old Whitwell RUFC who had dissolved as a club. They requested for my services to reform a new club in the area as a new facility had just been built in Creswell. I approached Creswell Parish Council who granted us permission to be first to use their new facility and also gave us funds to kick-start a rugby club in Creswell. 7 years on the club is still playing matches, attracting players and I myself at 70 years old turn out for the odd match.”
