Calne Community “I would say we are a community club to some degree but this is an area I think we could improve on. We need to get involved in more local events to promote the club because there are still many people in Calne that do not realise that they have a rugby team!” Facilities “Since Calne Rugby was reformed in 1960 we have played at the Calne Recreation Ground. I regard the clubhouse to be one of the best in our league (an old school clubhouse) but because we do not own a clubhouse or pitch, we are often at a disadvantage when it comes to applying for funding for improvements. Over the past few years the clubhouse has seen a reduction in players using the bar and this has affected the social side a great deal. This is something we are looking to address from the 2016-17 season.” Challenges/Ambitions “One of our biggest challenges is other larger clubs taking all the players! A few of the local clubs have had funding to build their own clubhouse, pitches and even gyms. We are not able to compete with these clubs financially and the true grass roots clubs that do not own their ground will slowly disappear unless further assistance is given. Our goal for next season is continue to grow our adult and junior squads and compete for the Dorset and Wilts 2 North league title and cup. But people play rugby to be part of something, to meet new people and form friendships that last a lifetime.” “We became involved when Chris Austin, the Calne RFC Chairman approached us about shirt sponsorship. We hadn’t really done anything like this before so thought it was a good idea. I did get to 3 games last season. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and indeed I didn’t see the team lose in our shirt. I think they are still unbeaten since the new shirts arrived mid-season. They had a great season and deserved their second place finish in the league. I hope next season will be even better. They have decided not to take their promotion and have at least another season in the current league to consolidate on last season. We wish them well and look forward to the first game.” -Nick Sewell, Bevirs Solicitors Local, welcoming, professional Advising individuals and businesses in Wiltshire and beyond since 1884 WILLS AND ESTATES FAMILY MATTERS MOVING HOME BUSINESS SERVICES DISPUTE RESLOUTION Swindon Office Royal Wootton Bassett Office Calne Office 36 Regent Circus Swindon Wiltshire SN1 1UQ TEL : 01793 532363 EMAIL : [email protected] 141 High Street Royal Wootton Bassett Wiltshire, SN4 7AZ TEL : 01793 848900 EMAIL : [email protected] Market Hill House Calne Wiltshire SN11 0EG TEL : 01249 814536 EMAIL : [email protected] www.sportip.biz 31
