On the back of the success, the club has also had a very social aspect this season and the team spirit is great. This was shown by the spirit at the end of season sports meal social, and the length the fresher’s went to impress their seniors! Success “We have added a president role who will be Matt King (4th year) next year to add stability and command to the club. We have also obtained new kit and equipment this year increasing the professional look of the club. Improving the organisation and administrating roles within the club has helped our success, in previous years the team has had to forfeit games but this has been avoided this year by rearranging games earlier so we can actually play games and show clubs what we are capable of. However the success is predominately down to the hard work and commitment of the lads in the team, of all abilities. I believe the attitude of the guys has changed, I believe they are finally seeing their potential and this is reflective in their results this year. I believe this will continue and we will have another great season next season under the captaincy of Gus McCarthy.” • All this at prices substantially less than franchised dealers. ● We can offer free collection and delivery in BN1 & BN2 post codes or alter • We pride ourselves in customer care and do not carry out extra available. work without prior customer approval. ● Why not give us a try and see the difference? • Cars left with us for service or repair receives a complimentary wash and vacuum. We also have some really young but talented fresher’s who have so much potential. We have some amazing rugby players in our older years, some of whom only started playing when they started university four years ago and they have been key to our success this year. Most notable, Rupert who was the player of the year this year and has had an amazing season.” Challenges/Ambitions “The biggest challenge has been funding, especially in a club of this size and I think this will continue for years to come but as long as the players continue to show commitment the team will continue to grow. Gus McCarthy (Captain), Tom Trencher (Vice-Captain) and Matt King (President) have made it clear that promotion is a priority this year, and something that is completely possible with us beating teams in the cup three leagues above us. So this will be their primary aim. But we also won the Sussex plate and reached the semi-final of the national medics cup, and these are both competitions which they will want to do well in again.” Success for the season • Sussex Late Red League Champions • Sussex Plate Cup Winners • 3rd in The National Association of Medical Schools (NAMS) Rugby Union Cup • Raised thousands of pounds via private donations, self-funding and grants from Brighton University for new kit and equipment • Published a very popular naked calendar, with £200 of profit donated to the BSMS charities www.sportip.biz 25
