Beckenham FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG “I became involved in Beckenham RFC through my brother who plays for the club. I get down to watch them play whenever I can and was pleased to see them do well last season. The coaching style there is excellent and I’d like to wish them the best of luck for the new season. Hopefully they’ll be able to claim some silverware.” -Lee McGinley of LMG Building Services Last season, their first team put together a solid league campaign as they compiled a record of fourteen wins and just eight defeats from their twenty two matches. This saw them finish in the top half of the table with 66 points on the board. This should provide them with a solid platform from which to build as they look to build for their 2016/17 campaign. As long as they are able to retain their current group of players and can perhaps make one or two quality additions they should be well positioned to push on up the table. A standout feature of the Beckenham set-up is the strong youth system that they have in place which looks to help players from the local area to reach their full potential by providing them with a safe environment in which to play the game. It is important for any side to be able to produce their own talent, particularly in the current financial climate, and it will be a major boost for the first team if they can rely on young players coming through the ranks to challenge for a place in the side. Coaching staff involved in the youth section at the club are confident that they have a number of players on the books who have the potential to go on and play “Beckenham RFC is a terrific example of the important role that a club can play in their local community. The work that they are doing at present should put them in a good position to go on and enjoy a successful future.” 22 Issue 64
