Pewsey Vale Pewsey Vale RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB P ewsey Vale RFC enjoyed a season to remember last time around as they were crowned league champions. We caught up with their Director of Rugby/Head Coach Mick Haynes to find out more about how the club is getting along ahead of the new campaign. Involvement He told us, “I joined the club in July 2005 having arrived from Germany. Moving about with the Army I have always looked to join a local rugby club in the area I am posted to and by chance I was allocated a quarter in Pewsey. As a qualified coach and referee I didn’t want to upset anyone, but far from doing that I was welcomed with open arms by players and committee alike. The club is in essence its players and from the start their character has always been tremendously friendly, inclusive and having plenty of heart even when up against it. Over the years we have built on that character which has enabled us to take the rough with the smooth.” The Role “My job is to deliver well organised training and a schedule of games so that we play good rugby on a regular basis and in doing so to meet the aspirations of the players both collectively and individually. The most challenging (irritating) aspect is marshalling the players, for all the modern means of communication and social media the youngsters still need chasing for a reply. The most rewarding is their application on the pitch, and the overwhelming sense they play for each other.” Present “The mood is buoyant and we are very much looking forward to the coming season and playing again at level 8 in www.sportip.biz 17
