It is no secret that our club finances haven’t been healthy. We don’t own the land the club is on, we have to rent it and this is a massive overhead we have to deal with each month. The way people socialise and participate in sport is also changing. I think there is more focus now on achieving excellence rather than playing for enjoyment which means that many players leave small local clubs like us to chase a ‘career’ in the professional sport and climb the ladder up the leagues leaving us with a gaping hole in our membership and squad. We used to have four teams and a vets but now we just have the two, there is more pressure from work and home life and people just can’t commit like they used to either.
