Awards Evening and as well as the 7s
there is taking part in the NatWest DIY
weekend. So it’s still very busy at the
club. People forget that rugby clubs run
365 days a year practically! Our ladies
are also holding a women and girls boot
camp day on the 20th of August. We are
hoping to attract lots of new faces from
the local area.”
Challenges
“As with any organisation of this
nature, finance is the biggest issue. It is
no secret that our club finances haven’t
been healthy. We don’t own the land the
club is on, we have to rent it and this is a
massive overhead we have to deal with
each month.
The way people socialise and
participate in sport is also changing.
I think there is more focus now on
achieving excellence rather than playing
for enjoyment which means that many
players leave small local clubs like us to
chase a ‘career’ in the professional sport
and climb the ladder up the leagues
leaving us with a gaping hole in our
membership and squad.
We used to have four teams and a

is more pressure from work and home
life and people just can’t commit like
they used to either. It’s a shame but large
clubs might be a thing of the past and
sustaining a facility like ours at Yeovil
will become increasingly difficult.”
senior men’s teams. We also want to
build the ladies team and introduce a U18
women’s team for the U15s to progress
to and to feed into the ladies team. Also
it is important to try and stabilise our
finances and negotiate a deal that we
can afford which means our future at the
ground is secure.
We want the club to be there in the
future to offer what we were all so lucky
to have access to. But for that to happen
we need to build a foundation for our
players with clear progression paths
which are both appealing and welcoming
for the younger members coming
through.”
Ambitions
“Our ambition is to continue retaining
players and building the squad so that
we have a player base to sustain the two
