John Daniel has had a long and exciting association with Crewkerne
RFC. He recently took time out of his busy work schedule to speak
to Rugby Club Magazine, saying, “I started playing rugby as an
eight year old at school where our school masters coached us on
the rules and skills of the game.

“As a 15 year old I played for Crewkerne either as full back or centre
and continued for main years as player, captain, vice-captain,
coach and committee member up until 2002 when having played
over 250 games the club and myself went through a transitional
period and with added business commitments I decided to step
aside a little.
“I have to say that one of the real strengths of the club, apart from
its social excellence, has to be the high quality of coaches and
leaders it has enjoyed over the years. Both my brothers Matt and
Richard played for the club and this was not an unfamiliar sight
amongst our players with many groups of brothers and cousins
taking to the field over the years. My company Brotherwood is also
a club sponsor and I have always liked to help out when asked.
“I get down to the club when I can although game shooting is
my hobby at certain times of the year. I would like to congratulate
everyone associated with Crewkerne Rugby Club on such a fine
season. It’s great to see the boys back up in the Premier League
where they belong and with the changing face of rugby over the
years I would urge everyone to keep looking for that passion which
is so important for enjoyment of our sport; this combined with the
necessary hard yards needed to achieve success. The friends I
have made through rugby are life long and I am, as always, very
proud to be a member of Crewkerne Rugby Club!”
