rewkerne RFC enjoyed a successful season as their first team clinched promotion to the Somerset Premier League and they appear to be well set up for a bright future . We caught up with their recently appointed Chairman Mervyn Bowditch to find out more about the good work that the club has been doing lately .
He told us , “ Following my retirement from International judo , I joined Crewkerne rugby club in the season of 1982 / 83 and have played every year since . I was initially drawn to the club by my cousins , who were members of the club . I became a committee member 3 years ago and I have now taken up the position of chairman after the AGM last Wednesday , when I was nominated .
“ The last season has been a memorable season for the club , as the first team gained promotion to Somerset premier . The second team marginally missed promotion from Somerset 3 South , which we are hoping to rectify this year and the juniors topped 100 in number , which is a fantastic achievement for Simon Shackleford as head coach .
“ Simon has also led a group of 30 + youngsters for the last two seasons up to Exeter Chiefs . In which they were given a guided tour around the stadium and provided the guard of honour for the premiership league game .
