radford Salem RFC’s beginnings came when Dudley Ackroyd established the
Salem Sports Club. Dudley and his brother Verney ran the Congregational
Church having earned their fortunes in the textile industry and formed the Salem
Young Men’s Class which was open to men aged 16 and upward.
