Alison Hunter is the current treasurer of Weymouth &
Portland Rugby Club she recently spoke to Rugby Club
Magazine, saying, “My son Robert who tends to play for the
backs in either the no. 10 or no. 12 position has played for
the club from U6s to his current team the U14s who won
the plate final last season.
“One of Robert’s athletics friends was introduced to our
club and he was very much taken by the friendship and
comradery displayed which I believe is a true reflection of
our club and its members.

we like to help out whenever we can.

saying, “I moved to Weymouth in 1983,
becoming a playing member in 1985 and
then a social member. It was in 2013 that I
was asked to become chairman.
“As we are all volunteers it’s
sometimes hard to get everyone pulling in

the same direction. I get great enjoyment
out of coaching the younger players and
seeing them make the grade as first team
players.
“This season went well at the club;
our 2nd team have just won promotion
our 1st team just got beat in the Dorset &
Wilts Plate Final and took 2nd place in the
league. Our under 14s won the plate final
and we have a very strong M/Y section at
the club which is good for the future.
“Being a community club we try to get
local people interested which is working
on Sundays with the amount of people
we attract. We also coach at schools in
our area which helps attract new players
down to the club.
“We do tend to lose players when they
start college and they tend to finish with
the bigger clubs as we have only a small
catchment area. Weymouth & Portland
RFC is a fantastic club to be involved with
and I’m extremely proud to be Chairman
here.”
