Vipers FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG “I had the privilege to become first team captain and aspired to be as good as the captains before me. “My Dad coached me from U6 age and I have been lucky to have played rugby with my Dad in the same side. I now coach my sons mini rugby age group which seems to be a natural progression of player to coach. “The Vipers have a great tradition of player to coach scenarios which is one of the many great aspects of the club. This alone is a fantastically rewarding part of rugby. Most of our past players stay within the club and constantly pass on the knowledge to younger players as players before them have done. “The coaching set up at the Vipers is a very important part of our long term plan; we currently have qualified RFU coaches in all age groups from U6 to Colts. We as a club take our player development seriously and work very closely with the local RFU representative to make sure we are giving our future stars the best possible coaching. “The last few seasons our first team coach has worked with our junior teams to assist in a smooth transition from junior to senior rugby. This is now working very well with the average of our first and second team being around 23 years old. “Our ambitions for the next 5 years for me would be to increase our mini and junior player base and sustain it as well as improving our coaching skill and seeing lots of player transition from junior to senior rugby. “I have been lucky to have had a great rugby playing career spanning over 40 years, rugby and the Vipers have been a massive part of my life for most of those years, it is our clubs desire to make sure that every player who pulls on the club shirt feels the same way.” 46 Issue 63
