Minety large wall mounted television screens . Amongst other peripherals attached to the main TV is a DVD player used to replay matches as a crucial part of our training and development sessions .
There are three rugby pitches , all of which require some considerable work , especially after the recent deluge of rain that has all but washed them away . The club is urgently seeking further sponsorship and researching into applying for grants from various business sectors to put in the necessary drainage to enable us to play and train outside throughout the season . We know that the improvement of our pitches will be a huge financial burden upon a small club such as ours , so we are actively pursuing any available financial assistance to improve the facilities for all .”
Challenges
“ We believe that the biggest challenge is bringing our playing surfaces up to the standard of our local rivals . We have lost numerous training sessions and much needed game time this season . Whilst in the past , the ‘ Minety mud ’ was seen as a distinct advantage , as the club has developed we have found that we play much better away on good , well drained , flat surfaces which rewards the free flowing style of play which we encourage in all of our teams .
In an area where there are a number of other clubs with far better facilities than
ours , we have to work extra hard to recruit and retain players . It is testament to all concerned with the club that we continue to recruit new players and maintain the
excellent spirit that we enjoy within the club at all levels . We believe that we have players who could play at a higher level but need a decent set of pitches and a larger playing base to support the move up to the next level of competition .”
Ambitions
“ As a vibrant club we want to see playing numbers increase at all age levels and to see the level of improvement rise across the whole club . Our successes at senior , Academy and Under 15 ’ s this year show that there is great potential for improvement within the club if only we can be sure that our facilities can match those improvements .
But we are aware that the club has to be more than just a conduit for achievement ; it has to retain its close knit social aspect where players and their families can enjoy the game and all that it can bring , and that we can continue to position ourselves at the very centre of the village . We feel that we are on the right course and that the balance is just about right , but there is always so much to be done just to stand still , let alone develop for the future .”
