inety RFC put together
a
strong
campaign
this time around as
they finished in fourth
place in the Dorset & Wilts 1 North
League and won the Dorset and Wilts
Vase competition. A number of senior
club members including Cliff Garland
(Head Coach), Peter McAllister (Youth
and Junior Representative), Matthew
Cross (Sponsorship Officer) and Graham
Cooke (Press and Publicity Officer) took
the time to tell us more about the club.
About the club
They told us, “We are a small village
club which “punches” significantly
above its weight (the population of
Minety is 1500). For a rural club, like
ours, with a small playing base, we have
done exceptionally well this season to
win the Dorset and Wiltshire Vase, to

place ourselves near the top of our very
competitive division whilst at the same
time our Academy squad has fought
through to the final of the Dorset &
Wiltshire U18s Plate and our U15
team is also through to the final of
the Dorset and Wiltshire U15s Plate,
after reaching the quarter final of
the Gloucester Cup.”
Early Success
“Minety got off to a flying start at
the beginning of the season and were
comfortably in 2nd place in Dorset
& Wilts 1 North Division right up to
Christmas, including a hugely enjoyable 8
game run undefeated. It was during that
time that we won the Dorset & Wilts Vase
competition in a tense and exciting final
played at Warminster’s ground.
This was the highlight of the season,
perhaps even the greatest single
achievement in the history of the
club, so the mood in the club was electric.
