Rob Portman of club sponsor BS Midlands recently
spoke to Rugby Club Magazine about his positive
association with Tamworth RUFC, saying, “It really
started through the best man at my wedding, whose
two sons play rugby at Tamworth, suggesting that I
bring my son Samuel along to the club so he could
enjoy the camaraderie and involvement that his sons
were having.”

“That was a year and a half ago and the rest is history
as I say. Samuel played for the clubs U10s last year
and will step up to the under 11s now which, due
to numbers, have had to split the teams into two
groups allowing each to benefit from more individual
coaching.
“I have to say that the club coaches are excellent and
I notice that there is less fighting and more discipline
among the lads. The club will be forming a girls and
ladies team this year and I am delighted to say that
both my daughters, Jessica who is 14 and Isabelle
who is 13, are looking forward to attending the trials.
“The advantages for young people playing rugby
are fabulous; youngsters come together from many
different backgrounds and learn skills in many areas
including leadership. I would like to congratulate
everyone at Tamworth on sustaining such an
all-inclusive club and wish all the teams continued
