We caught up with Chairman Bob Lawless to find out more about the good work that the club has been doing lately. Involvement He told us, “I have been at Staines for the past 29 years and have had various positions which including Club Coach, Director of Rugby, President and Chairman. My first visit to the Club was running RFU Coaching courses. I was invited back to assist with the club coaching, was impressed by the set up and friendly attitude of the players and members and soon become a part of the Staines family.” The Role “My interests in being involved in Rugby, is both Club and Player Development. Rugby has gone through a changing landscape and it is interesting to see the personal development of young 74 Issue 61 players coming through the club and how volunteers, members and all those involved have developed in their work/ family lives. Being Chairman of a club that owns its own facilities also has its own challenges. Ensuring that income streams are there to support club growth and providing playing pathways for all our mini and youth players is a very rewarding aspect.” Atmosphere “There is a very good squad spirit with the seniors, the mini and youth numbers are increasing with the sides doing well and we have an U17s Youth team in a transition period to Senior Rugby.
