war in 1947. To this day, there is much speculation about where it
went during this time but the truth is, nobody really knows.
The Siam Cup is the second oldest rugby cup in existence,
behind the Calcutta Cup, which is played between England and
Scotland. Due to its’ significance, the original Siam cup has been
on display in the Museum of Rugby in Twickenham since 1977
and a replica made by renowned Guernsey jeweller, Bruce Russell,
is the one used and kept in the trophy cabinet of the successful
island.
Playing for the Siam Cup is a highlight of many players’
careers, including Guernsey vice-captain Lewis Hillier. He
explains, “The hype that comes with the Siam Cup is incredible.
Playing in front of a crowd of over 5000 people brings such an
amazing atmosphere and makes it a huge experience. It makes
you push yourself to play your best rugby.”
We currently boast two men’s teams, a 1st XV that plays in
the RFU National 3 London & South East League and a 2nd XV
