Effingham and Leatherhead FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG David Armstrong, Club Chairman As well as being Chairman, David Armstrong has seen his son progress through the Mini and Junior sections of the club. He recently took the time to speak with Rugby Club Magazine, saying, “I’ve been involved for 11 years since my son started playing as a six-year old. I started coaching when he was seven and I’m still involved now with the U18s.” “The most rewarding thing is looking out on a Sunday to see hundreds of kids enjoying playing rugby and the social environment that creates amongst parents, coaches and the community. The most challenging is trying to get lazy 18 year olds out of bed on a Sunday morning for games! But it is also challenging to juggle my roles as Chairman of the club and CEO of Wasps during very busy seasons for both clubs. “The mood here is very positive at present - it’s our 50-year anniversary and we’re looking forward to various events to celebrate that. Our First XV wants to secure a place firmly in the top half of its league and we want to keep bringing more and more Minis and Juniors to our club. Youth development is very important to us - it is the heart of everything we do. “We have a healthy range of club sponsors who are very supportive of the club and we continue to look for more partners all the time. Over the next year or two we face some tricky decisions about whether to relocate the club to new premises or stay in our existing facilities and upgrade them. The outcome of this will set our path for the next 50 years! In the coming years we would like to see our First XV win promotion and continue to grow our Mini and Junior playing base.” New York or Twickenham? Sometimes you need to know a little bit more....
