RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB
C
arrick Rugby Club does a
fantastic job of providing
people from their community
with an opportunity to play the game in
a safe and enjoyable environment. We
caught up with Club Representative
Gordon Brown to find out more about
the club.
Atmosphere
He told us, “The mood at Carrick
Rugby is extremely positive. We have
now got 20 teams between our senior and
youth development programmes. The
Club 1st XV are currently sitting top of
West League Division 1 and have reached
the clubs first ever final by reaching the
West Shield final which ill take place in
February.
“The club 2nd XV are sitting in the
top half of their league after winning
promotion and the league title undefeated
last season. The Academy now fields 7
teams from P6 to U18 every Saturday
morning and competes in the new schools
conference structure against many of the
best independent and state schools. Our
girls section is growing with our U15
girls winning the South Ayrshire title this
season and remaining undefeated. The
game has grown also at Girvan Academy
where 5 teams are now being fielded with
the support of our development team.”
This Season
“The start to the season has been
excellent. Our aim is to try and continue
winning as many games as we can in the
league to see where that will take us. The
final is also a big target for us and possibly
a trip to Murrayfield if we were to be
successful. The 2nd XV have targeted a top
4 finish in the league. We wish to continue
our development with the youth section
and field as many teams as we can.”
Youth
“We employ 5 people in our
development team who are based here at
