We caught up with Club Representative Stuart Vernon to find out more about the good work they have been doing lately. He told us, “I moved to the area in September 1973 after taking up a teaching post at a comprehensive school in Heysham but I did not begin playing for the Vale of Lune until January 1974 when we purchased a house locally. Until then I had travelled back home to the family in Macclesfield; my wife and I came originally from Leek, a small market town in Staffordshire. I hung up my boots at the end of the 75/76 season and was immediately elected as Press Secretary and plunged in at the deep end. “Thankfully I received valuable advice from the Assistant Press Secretary, Peter Lovett-Horn, who was an experienced and highly respected journalist. Initially I felt like a fish out of water, in particular in providing running copy for the Saturday Sport’s Editions, but with help from Peter and other sport’s journalists, I developed a style that met with the approval of the professionals in the media. “Every season has presented new challenges but for me one of the greatest was coming to terms with the world of computers. Whilst teaching I had never really got involved with IT, thinking it would never replace a blackboard or chalk. However, everything changed when newspapers would no longer take hand written copy and copy takers disappeared. So in 2005 I was handed a battered computer to ‘play’ with and have never looked back. “Since taking on the role of Press Secretary my primary aim has always been to promote all aspects of the Vale of Lune, not only in the immediate area but wider afield. “Currently there is a discernable buzz throughout the club and this has been growing over the past couple of seasons
