They are led by the team of Chair Phil Riley and President John Rigby and the club is looking to progress under their guidance. This season their first team has made a steady start to their league campaign, putting together a record of five wins, one draw and five defeats from their eleven league matches. This has left them sitting in a safe mid-table position with thirty points on the board. This should provide them with a solid platform upon which to build as they look forward to the rest of the campaign. As long as they are able to retain their current group of players and perhaps make one or two quality additions they should be well set up for a successful season. One of the standout features of the Heaton Moor set up is the superb youth section that they have in place. This part of the club looks to provide young players from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. Their fine work in this area was recognised earlier this year when they received a national award at the National Rugby Awards. Speaking to the Manchester Evening News afterwards Chairman of the mini and junior section Phil Yeomans said, “In the year the Rugby World Cup comes to England this is great recognition for the efforts of all our players, coaches and volunteers. “It shows what a fantastic club Heaton Moor is for anyone to play rugby at, whether new or experienced, and we 48 Issue 59 hope this award encourages even more children between the ages of five and 16 to come and play for the club.” In order to help ensure that their young players enjoy a smooth transition into the senior game they also run additional sides. This allows them to gain experience of adult level rugby even if they are not yet considered ready for first team action which can be an important step in the development process. As part of their Christmas festivities they are planning to host an Over 30s Vs Under 30s match on Sunday 27th December at 2:00pm. Last year the event was a tremendous success and it promises to be so again this time around. All families and friends will be welcome to attend and the bar will be open throughout the day for people to enjoy. This event is just one example of Heaton Moor’s commitment to playing an important role in their local community which is a major part of what makes them such a special establishment. There is much to admire about the fantastic set up that Heaton Moor currently has in place and this is thanks to all of the hard work that has gone into making them a success. Hopefully they will be able to keep up the good work for many years to come.
