Stourbridge FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG Stourbridge RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB S tourbridge Rugby Club is a fine example of the important role a club can play in the local community by providing people of all ages with the opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment. Their Chairman, Robin Edwards took the time to tell us more. Involvement He told us, β€œI have been involved with the Stourbridge rugby club since 1974 when I went along to a colts training session as a schoolboy. The main reason I went is because we played rugby at my grammar school and I was keen to continue with my school pals. The club seemed to offer a welcome and it was a friendly and interesting place to test my rugby abilities. In my first full year I was made captain of the colts and whilst this was undoubtedly not a talent based selection it gave me a position of responsibility and trust that I genuinely appreciated.” 30 Issue 59 The Role β€œIn my recently appointed role as Chairman the most challenging aspect is to achieve cohesion between the various groups within the club and to create an atmosphere where all members feel welcome and comfortable. The essence of the game should always be built around friendship and loyalty and we aim to provide an opportunity for all types and sizes, ages and genders to take part in the game whether as a spectator, a sponsor, a player or another sportsperson who shares a common ethos.”
