Tycroes Tycroes It would be fair to say that Tycroes RFC has faced its fair share of adversity in recent times. However they continue to play a vital role in their local community and Chairman Meirion Powell recently took the time to tell us about the good work that they have been doing. He told us, “Most club members got involved with the Club because they are locally born and bred; I got involved because I moved into Tycroes and my first residence in the village was the Steward’s flat at the rear of the Clubhouse so you could say I became a member through the back door! “That was back in 1981 and I became a member because the club was such a friendly place; like a homely pub, not the stereotype clubs I had previously known. I soon went on the Committee and have been ever since, serving as Chairman for 22 of the last 23 years. “The interim period has seen many ups and downs but, although we are struggling as a Club (as most small sporting clubs are in these difficult trading times) we have seen considerable success over the last few years. The Club in general is very fortunate to be served by a loyal, energetic and enthusiastic Committee where each committeeman is on the lookout for things that need to be done and can be done. “We have worked hard to reduce costs to the minimum, increase efficiency and reduce wastage, whilst trying to get more people through the door. Our main fundraising event is our annual Party on The Pitch, where we have an afternoon and evening of live bands throughout the day. This has been a reasonable success apart from 2011 when we failed to secure our headline act Alexandra Burke. “We have since got back on track and the event continues to bring in some much needed funds. We are running a locally based lottery which is drawn on a fortnightly basis. Our land, which is freehold, extends to about 10 acres and with our 2 pitches and our proximity to the end of the M4, we are a convenient location for Cup and Representative games when a “neutral venue” is required. We are currently reviewing tenders received We are a leading specialist in the domestic, commercial and industrial sectors, J Randall Roofing Contractors have over 20 years experience carrying out all aspects of roofing and associated works for a range of public and private clients throughout the UK.
